booking hotel kuala lumpur

If you are planning a trip around Asia and want to add a destination different from the Thai or Indonesia beaches or even the greatly developed Singapore, then Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia is for you!

You will love the city because of the presence of different Asian cultures and traditions, plus it has many foreigners! To really enjoy the city, I will help you out with my best suggestions on where to stay in Kuala Lumpur!

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and the fastest growing metropolitan city in the country, with a population of about 1.8 million people. The city has two main landmarks: Petronas Twin Towers and KL Tower. Their magnificence is empowered by the many international businesses that stand around them, as well as the very luxurious stores that are in the nearby shopping center.

By the way, if you want more details on to why you should visit this impressive city, I recommend you to read my article about Things to do in Kuala Lumpur.

top hotels in kuala lumpur

I have made a selection of the best hotels in Kuala Lumpur City with great reviews and sorted them by price for your convenience. If you wonder which neighborhood is the best one to stay at in Kuala Lumpur, you are in the right place – I have sorted all hotels by neighborhoods so you can choose the perfect area and hotel for your stay!

Here we go, here are the 5 best neighborhoods (and hotels for each) in Kuala Lumpur for tourists:

1. Kuala Lumpur City Center

4 star hotels in kuala lumpur

KLCC (Kuala Lumpur City Center) was actually made to be a city within a city!

The area not only holds the tallest twin buildings in the world, a shopping mall, and office buildings, but also several amazing hotels! In this area you can also find a big park and a mosque, open to everyone.

The city center is easily accessed with public transport thanks to the many buses operating on different routes of the area and a few train stations nearby. I definitely recommend this area if you want to be in the center of the tourist destination, surrounded by great dining restaurants, shopping, and nightlife options.

If you think this is the best area for you, here are the best hotels in Kuala Lumpur City Center that I recommend:

5 star hotel in kl

2. Bukit Bintang

where to stay in kl

Bukit Bintang, also referred to as Bintang Walk or Starhill, is the main and trendiest shopping and entertainment district of the city!

It can be seen as the retail belt of KL homing some of the best shopping centers, cafés, bars, night markets, and street food eateries. The area is very popular for tourists, but mostly local and foreign youth groups.

Because of the neighborhood location, it is easy to move around from or towards the area via public transportation (local monorail, taxis, buses). If you are here, you must go by the Pavilion KL; even if you don’t purchase anything, you will definitely be fascinated by the amount of European luxury retailers that have a store there!

While you’re in the area, go over to the Bundle Chow Kit Night Market to find great deals of used clothing, spices, and accessories, or walk around to find Southeast Asia’s largest Sikh Temple.

4. Chinatown

kuala lumpur accomodation

Some people refer to Chinatown as the area that never sleeps!

Chinatown is not only more colorful than the rest of neighborhoods but has numerous businesses that work throughout the day and night. Not only can you feel yourself immersed in the Oriental culture and history while in the area, but can find the best bargain paradise, and a diversity of products from Chinese herbs to imitation goods at a great price!

This area is great for budget accommodations, as most of the options are mid-range guesthouses and hotels that offer the essential services and charge a down-to-earth fee for a night stay. The low prices compared to other areas might be because of the closeness to the Pasar Seni LRT train station that might not necessarily be a favorite for most tourists or expats living in KL.

NOTE: Unfortunately, being such an affordable neighborhood, there are no luxury hotels in Chinatown.

If you want to stay in Chinatown, here are the best places you can book!
