Pin it for later!
Hi Yulia, thank you for your very detailed post, super helpful.
I’m planning to come to Bali for a month during the summer with my wife and 2 daughters (both 6 y.o), we’re planning to go around Bali (Uluwatu, Ubud, Nusa Lembongan) and I was thinking of spending the last week in Canggu. From what I gathered in your post, Pererenan might be better suited for us, since we’re not seeking nightlife and experiencing culture would be what we’re looking for + still have easy access to some kids-friendly action (beach, restaurants, cafe, walks) and good enough location to organize day trips to explore around (Tanah lot, Kuta, check out waterfall, go to waterbom, etc.).
I have a few questions:
– Is Canggu / Perenenan a good place to set base for what we want to do or would you recommend somewhere else?
– Which beach is best for kids in Canggu? any of them where they could actually swim safely?
– do you think 7 days would be too long on Canggu?
– I understand there’s quite a bit of traffic in the area, is commuting around in taxi / car still ok (scooter isn’t an option for us).
Thank you so much for your help!
Hey hey Ed!
You will definitely enjoy your time in Bali with the fam!
As for your questions –
– I think Perenenan is a good area to base yourself when you are in and around Canggu since you are not looking for nightlife. It is a bit less crowded and noisy and it is not so built in yet
– all the beaches in Canggu are similar in terms of kids safety I would say – just choose the one closer to you and watch your kids when in the water, the waves can be quite strong!
– it depends on how long you have in Bali overall and what you are interested to see mainly. But imho, I would definitely spend more time in Ubud and maybe the other 2 places you mentioned as they have more nature and tranquility to offer.
– yes, the traffic is pretty bad in Bali and it is getting worse, Canggu being the worse of all the areas on the island, please take that into consideration. Taxi is definitely fine, you can use apps like GoJek and Grab – it is cheap, available at all times and you can be sure noone is going to trick you!
Enjoy your time in Bali guys!
Hi Eylul,
thank you so much , great reading and very helpful , Although I’m finding it difficult to decide on accommodating in Legian or Canggu simply because we will have 4 kids with us 3, 14, 18, 19. The two eldest being girls , they’ll want to wander shops , markets ect. I know Legian but I don’t know Canggu. What is the shopping like please
Kind regards
Ange
Hey Angela!
I am in Canggu right now and i think your kids will really enjoy it here, especially the teens.
There is a lot of shopping opportunities here especially the local boutique hippie style stores. Not sure if that is what you are asking?
P.S. I REALLY recommend you guys booking your accommodation in advance, after covid this area is way more popular now.
P.S.S. so, in this regard, Legian might be less traffic heavy maybe, but then again, tourists are returning to Bali overall, not just to Canggu 🙂
