I visited Coron a while ago and came back with lots of tips on how to make the best out of your trip! Below you’ll find not only the top areas but also some of the best hotels in Coron.
In short Coron Town is the best place to stay in Coron as that’s the main hub of the island and also where you’ll find the biggest concentration of hotels. But as I mentioned, if you’d prefer something else, check out the other 3 areas.
I highly recommend booking your tours and hotels in advance! When I went I thought we’d find something on the spot and although we did, the hotel was super overpriced!

Where is Coron?
Coron’s location can get a bit confusing, just because when you look on the map you’ll see multiple places with its name. So to make it more clear, Coron is located in the Palawan region of the Philippines and it’s actually part of the bigger Busuanga Island.
The whole municipality of Coron is made of multiple areas including Coron Town (the main one), Coron Island which is part of the Minor islands on the South Coast and some other areas which I will talk about below

1. Coron Town – where to stay in Coron for the first time
Also known as Coron Town Proper, this place is the island’s main hub and the top place to stay in Coron for those of you who are visiting the island for the first time.
This is where I stayed when I came to Coron and it was great as we found a wide range of hotels and also lots of tours and activities like diving trips start from here. So it was perfect for what we had in mind!
Before you run to hop on a tour, make sure you also explore the city and its attractions! Stop by the Coron Public Market (map) to get a taste of the local life and indulge in some yummy food at one of the restaurants, Gavin’s Kitchen & Bar (map) is a great one.
Coron Town is the first choice for many tourists who want to go island hopping, especially to places like El Nido, which is known for its gorgeous beaches! Here’s a great island hopping tour that I found which includes Banana Island, Malcapuya Island, and Bulog Dos Island!
Talking about beaches, unfortunately this area doesn’t have many amazing options when it comes to sandy shores. So if you want more of a beach holiday, maybe look to the other areas I mentioned below, or if you don’t mind riding a boat for 15 min to get to the other spots that do have incredible beaches, then you can just stay in Coron Town.
Lots of people want to stay here as the prices are super affordable, so if you’re exploring Palawan on a budget, then Coron Town is your best bet.
This is also a great place to stay for families, since you’ll have easy access to the rest of the islands and lots of top-rated hotels, but I would recommend staying a bit outside the town (if you’re coming with kids), just because it can get pretty hectic there. Then you can get to central Coron Town by tricycle (tuktuk).
Relax on the loungers by the outdoor swimming pool, sunbathe under the island sun and enjoy the good vibes! This Coron resort comes with a spa, where you can relax after a whole day of sightseeing around the island! The modern rooms have private bathrooms, air conditioning, and the hotel has an on-site restaurant.

2. West Coast – best area to stay in Coron for nature lovers
Located around a 1h drive away from Coron Town Proper, the West Coast is an idyllic area perfect for those who want to enjoy island life to the fullest!
NOTE: You’ll need to pay a tourist tax when you arrive in Coron, around US$5. Ensure you have cash in their local currency (Philippine peso) as you’ll need to pay this in cash. Also, make sure you exchange your money before arriving in Coron as it’s not convenient to do it there.
With countless activities suited for adventure junkies, pristine beaches, crystal clear waters, and stunning views this place will win your heart over and you’ll definitely want to stay here for as long as possible!
The West Coast is home to some incredible waterfalls that you should definitely check out like the Conception Falls (map) and the Secret Falls (map).
PRO TIP: If you are planning to do a lot of snorkeling, maybe get your own equipment rather than renting it as I’m sure you’d rather use a new one than one that was used before by other people.
Some other great perks about the West Coast are that the atmosphere is much more laid back than the one in Coron Town Center, and there are not as many crowds. And the other is that the Francisco B. Reyes Regional Airport is located here.
I would also recommend this area for those planning a romantic getaway, since the location is a bit more secluded, tranquil and has lots of unique places that you can explore with your partner.
If you’re looking for some fab beaches where you can start your mornings and chill all day long, definitely check out Rio Playa Beach (map).
You could definitely rent out some bikes to explore the area more easily, usually some hotels offer that too, so check in with them.
Set right on the sandy shores, this hotel comes with a private beach area and a cozy outdoor dining area which overlooks the water. All their rooms are beautifully-decorated and they come with large windows and a furnished balcony.

3. North Coast – where to stay in Coron for luxury
Welcome to one of the most secluded areas in Coron, the North Coast!
Located a 1h drive away from Coron Town Proper this area is a dream come true for those of you who prefer quiet tranquil places.
Since it’s so exclusive and there are only a handful of hotels and restaurants, the North Coast is pretty expensive. So, if you want a fancy place to spend your Coron holiday then the North Coast is for you.
PRO TIP: Since there aren’t lots of popular restaurants in the area I’d recommend getting a hotel that offers food. When we were visiting the Philippines we ate at this place and got nasty food poisoning. So, it came in handy that we had a restaurant at our hotel and they could accommodate us with the food that we could eat, given the circumstances.
There are a couple of beaches here like the main one Lakdayan Beach (map) where you can relax and enjoy the island life, but most of them are not swimmable, still you can always explore the little islands nearby, like Dimaquiat Island (map) if you’re in the mood for some adventure!
You should also visit, if you have the chance, Calauit Island and its Wildlife Sanctuary which is home to some cute giraffes and zebras. The island is located right on the Northern tip of the island.
Chill on the beach of this fabulous resort that comes with an outdoor dining area and a bar. When you’re not out exploring the islands you can chill at their spa center or play some beach volleyball.

4. South Coast (minor islands) – best for tranquility
The South Coast includes the islands South of Coron which just like the North Coast are super isolated and great for those who prefer remote locations!
To make it clear for everyone, the islands that make up the South Coast are: Cullion Island, Marily Island, Apo Island, Tambon Island, Uson Island, Coron Island and Bulalacao Island. And most of them are set around a 15 min boat ride from Coron Town.
So even if you’re not staying here, you can always visit them or just go there for dinner!
The minor islands are home to some amazing luxury resorts that have bars, stunning pools, and let’s not forget about the feeling of staying on a remote island! So worth it!
Whichever island you stay on, the sights here are stunning, Coron Island is filled with sugary beaches, beautiful dreamy lagoons, and limestone cliffs. There are also a few scuba diving places around the coral reefs and shipwrecks.
PRO TIP: I got pretty sunburned while I was in Coron, so I’d recommend getting a strong sunblock (and aftersun!) and using it whenever you hit the beach or when you’re out in the strong sun.

What’s Coron if not a paradise for divers!
Famous especially for its shipwreck diving, Coron brings people from all over the world who love to go on adventures underwater! The WWII shipwrecks are the star of the show here and no one who visits Coron misses the chance to see them.
NOTE: You will need to hold your advanced open water certificate to dive the wrecks so if you aren’t already certified, it’s a good idea to contact a few dive centers and see if you can arrange a course during your stay.
