Innenstadt, or Old Town is undoubtedly the heart of Innsbruck and the city’s historic and cultural hub, making it a popular choice for first-time visitors thinking of where to stay in Innsbruck.
If you stay in Old Town, you’ll be able to walk to most of the city’s popular attractions. The main point of interest and one of the essential things to do in Innsbruck is to see the Golden Roof (map) and visit the eponymous museum within this golden-roofed Habsburg residence.
Another noteworthy landmark is the Triumphpforte (map), an 18th-century, Roman-style triumphal arch. As for museums, I recommend visiting the Hofburg Innsbruck and the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum.
During your explorations of Altstadt (another name for Old Town that is situated within the Innenstadt neighborhood), stop by to admire the architecture of Court Church Innsbruck (map) and the Dom St. Jakob cathedral (map), and don’t miss the Annasäule monument on Maria-Theresien-Straße.
Innsbruck’s Old Town has plenty to offer, and the best way to explore it is by walking around, admiring the architecture, and stopping to rest at one of the local restaurants. And if you find you love Innenstadt, I highly recommend you also add Salzburg to your itinerary.

Innenstadt has the best hotels in Innsbruck – just one of the reasons why it’s the most popular tourist spot. However, this also means that hotels here are the quickest to sell out, which is why I decided to recommend a few additional Innenstadt hotels for all budgets:

2. Pradl – the coolest area to stay for a local vibe
For a more modern and local vibe during your stay in Innsbruck, head a couple of blocks east of the Old Town and cross the train tracks to find yourself in Pradl. Whenever I travel, I always try to get away from the touristy areas and hunt for more authentic neighborhoods like this.
Before you decide to stay here, you need to know that Pradl doesn’t have a lot of attractions; the area is primarily residential, but it recently underwent major redevelopment and got that modern, polished look.
Even though it’s not as touristy as Old Town, you’ll find plenty of ways to spend your time in Pradl! Rapoldipark (map) is a great spot for a walk or a picnic, and there are a variety of events you can attend at Olympiaworld.
You can also go shopping at DEZ Einkaufszentrum Innsbruck or at one of the other shops and stores scattered throughout the neighborhood. Of course, you can always explore Innenstadt – it’s just a 10-minute walk away!

If your idea of a perfect holiday is being surrounded by nature and having access to an abundance of outdoor activities, look no further than the village resorts of Patsch and Schönberg.
These neighborhoods are situated 10 km (6 miles) South of Innenstadt, so you can drive to the center of Innsbruck in just 20 minutes. In case you’re not traveling with your own vehicle, you can rent a car and explore more of the Tyrol region!
The main reason why people visit these lovely villages is the fact that they offer top-notch facilities for winter sports. So, if you were wondering where to stay in Innsbruck for skiing, then you need to book your accommodation in Patsch or Schönberg!
When I first visited Innsbruck I didn’t know anything about skiing, but I have since spent 10 seasons living in ski resorts all around the world (I am a ski instructor!)
Patscherkofel is the main ski resort here, but there are many different resorts in the valley – everything from family-friendly to Olympic-level slopes.
If it so happens that you visit during summer, you can still have plenty of fun, no worries! You can go hiking, rock climbing, or get a bicycle and explore the cycling trails in the area.
A hotel situated in a traditional Tyrolean chalet, offering rooms with rustic wooden decoration and private balconies overlooking the Stubaital Valley. If you are simply looking for spots where you can unwind and get an authentic taste of Innsbruck, then Hötting is the area to stay in Innsbruck. Located 2 km (1.2 miles) West of Old Town, Hötting offers the best views over Innsbruck and has plenty of pocket-friendly hotels.
Hötting is ideally located between the city center and the airport, and it’s home to several tour guides and companies, making it a popular starting point for many guided city tours.
Seeing as this is mainly a residential area, and as such, there isn’t much here in terms of nightlife or tourist attractions, but there are a few spots nearby that will entice you to venture outside the neighborhood.
My first suggestion is to plan a visit to the Alpenzoo Innsbruck – Tirol (map), a conservation-style zoo where you’ll see a variety of Alpine animals. Then, continue on to the Innsbruck University Botanical Garden to become familiar with many diverse plants.
Your stay in Hötting would be incomplete without dining at one of the neighborhood restaurants. I personally recommend Trattoria-Pizzeria Due Sicilie (map), a great Italian restaurant that serves authentic wood-baked pizza!
Although Hötting has great public transport coverage, I personally recommend walking to fully appreciate the breathtaking views of mountains and the river that flows along the neighborhood.
This luxury 4-star hotel is in an ideal location near the airport, offering private parking and multiple breakfast options. The sauna and fitness center can be used free of charge by hotel guests, and the rooms are spacious, with parquet flooring and marble bathrooms.

Located just East of Patsch and 8 km (5 miles) from Innenstadt. Lans is a popular choice for people who are planning a family trip to Innsbruck as it is a charming quiet village located at the foot of a mountain.
The village of Lans is renowned for its quiet, serene atmosphere – perfect if you want to take a step back from your usual fast-paced life. And if you want to know where to stay in Innsbruck in summer, I can tell you there’s no better place for a summer holiday than Lans!
The village’s main selling point during summer is the lake. Lake Lans is super family-friendly and offers plenty of recreational activities for both adults and children. There are beaches, swimming spots, waterslides, and supervised play areas, so there’s plenty to do for the whole family.
Lans also has a 9-hole golf course – the Golfclub Innsbruck – that also has an excellent restaurant on the premises, so the whole family can spend the day here.
And if you visit in winter, you can go ice skating when the lake freezes over and enjoy the spectacular views of the mountains! And, of course, you can bring your skis and head to Patscherkofel to hit the slopes.
