1. Central Broome – where to stay for the first time
Known for its pearl diving history and incredible natural landscapes, Broome is a magical town in Western Australia with pristine beaches and many attractions! Central Broome (the town center) is the perfect spot for first-time visitors, with its lively atmosphere, cool attractions, and great restaurants.
If you’re staying in Central Broome and want to spend a relaxing day by the ocean, head to Town Beach (map) and enjoy the views, walk along the Croc Jetty (map), and maybe even do some fishing – just don’t forget to bring your fishing pole! If you don’t have your own fishing rod, you can rent one from Shinju Boat Hire Broome for US$5 per day.
TIP: In case you’re visiting Broome on a full moon anytime between April and October, you can’t miss the Staircase to the Moon Night Markets (map). The market is held on Town Beach, and it’s the ultimate spot to try some street food and get a taste of local life. If you’re unsure when the market is supposed to take place, just ask any of the locals.
On your way back from the beach, you can stop at the Broome Historical Museum and learn a bit about the town’s history. If you’d like to get souvenirs, explore the Broome Courthouse Markets (map) – there are plenty of unique arts and crafts for you to take home!
Another perk of staying in Broome is the fact that you’ll be close to the Broome International Airport (map), so no need to worry about long commutes! Also, I really like the fact that Central Broome is walkable, and there’s no need to drive.
However, if you’d like to explore more of the town and visit all the attractions, you’ll need to rent a car and drive. But there’s another option – the Broome Explorer Bus – which is the better choice. The bus stops at all must-see spots in Broome and a ‘Hop On Hop Off’ pass for 24 hours costs just US$10 – available for purchase on the bus.
Those of you who are planning a longer stay in Broome should definitely consider a cruise to Kimberley Coast. Broome is considered the gateway to the Kimberley Coast and the Rowley Shoals Marine Park, some of Australia’s most stunning natural treasures. There are many options for cruising the Kimberley, but I really like this one. If you need more tips on the top attractions, we have a whole post on the best things to do in Broome! But now, let’s check out the best Broome accommodation in the town center:
Enjoy your tropical escape in this boutique hotel that’s set in a 1900 house! Each room has a unique design, and some feature a patio that overlooks the lush gardens – gotta love the natural set-up! Head to the terrace for a fresh-cooked meal and for a dip in the swimming pool.
Other accommodation options in Central Broome
Comfortable rooms set in a beachfront accommodation that comes with a swimming pool and a garden
An affordable place to stay in Broome that offers a free airport shuttle, a swimming pool, and spacious rooms
Admire the beautiful tropical oasis that surrounds this secluded cottage that has a kitchenette and bathroom
Things to do in Central Broome

- Hop on the Broome Explorer Bus and discover the town
- Book a tee time at the Broome Golf Club (map)
- Join a cruise to the Kimberley Coast
- Treat yourself to delicious food and cocktails at Papa Fuego (map)
2. Cable Beach – where to stay in Broome for outdoor activities
If you want to spend as much by the beach as possible, I recommend booking your hotel in Cable Beach! Cable Beach is actually a large Broome suburb, but it’s situated directly West of the town, just a 5-min drive from Central Broome. The Cable Beach area is a vibrant spot overflowing with tourists and the best area to stay in Broome for outdoor fun.
Cable Beach (map) is the main point of interest here, edged by the blue waters of the Indian Ocean, with beautiful white sand and lots of restaurants. During the dry season (May to October), you can safely swim at Cable Beach, but don’t get in the water in the wet season – that’s when all the stingers come to shore.
TIP: The tides at Cable Beach can change super quickly. If you plan on swimming, always do it in the designated area, and if you’re unsure whether it’s safe, consult one of the lifeguards.
At Cable Beach, you can try a variety of watersports, including kayaking, paddleboarding, and surfing. And even if you don’t want to get in the water, you can just stay on the sand and wait for the sun to set – Cable Beach has the most incredible sunsets.
That’s not it, though! Cable Beach is famous worldwide for its camel rides along the beach – a must-do while in Broome.
The views from anywhere in Cable Beach are stunning, but I highly recommend you go out to Gantheaume Point (map), the ultimate photo spot in Broome. The red rocks and the ocean backdrop will result in some great shots. But best of all – you can see dinosaur footprints! It’s super fun to imagine that dinosaurs once walked the same paths as you!
If you’re staying in Cable Beach, you’ll need a way to get around. Well, there’s the Explorer Bus, but if the timetables don’t work for you, there’s also Uber and local taxi services. Of course, you can also rent a car – this is a good idea if you plan to explore further away, like the Dampier Peninsula (map).
This luxury resort is the perfect missing piece to your tropical escape to Broome! Equipped with all sorts of amenities, including a mini-golf course and an outdoor pool, this accommodation will make your holiday unforgettable! Set on Cable Beach Road, the beachfront resort also has a children’s playground.
Other accommodation options in Cable Beach
Well-equipped apartments near the beach with a pool, sun loungers, and a garden with a picnic area
A budget resort offering air-conditioned rooms, a swimming pool, free private parking, and free cancelation if you change your mind
This private 1-bedroom bungalow is nestled in a tropical garden and features a spacious deck with outdoor seating
Things to do in Cable Beach
- Go swimming on Cable Beach and try some watersports
- Embark on a camel ride along Cable Beach and enjoy the sunset views
- Enjoy a meal and live music at the Divers Tavern (map)
- Snap some photos at Gantheaume Point

3. Roebuck Bay – best place to stay in Broome for couples
The last Broome area I’m going to recommend is Roebuck Bay, a strip of land along the coast and only a 10-min walk East of Central Broome. Roebuck Bay is the ideal spot for a romantic getaway to Broome, offering stunning vistas, great restaurants and hotels, and plenty of shopping opportunities in a more laid-back atmosphere.
To get a better sense of the area, go for a walk along Roebuck Bay all the way to the Streeter’s Jetty (map), where you can read a bit about the town’s history. From there, go on to explore Chinatown (map) and explore the many shops and stores. If you want to get some pearls from Broome for your special someone, this is the place to get them.
In the evenings, catch a movie at Sun Pictures (map), the oldest open-air cinema in the world. While out and about, another great thing to do is grab a drink at Matso’s Broome Brewery (map). This rustic brewpub serves many unique beers – here, you can try mango beer and even Australia’s first alcoholic ginger beer!
There are plenty of shops and restaurants to explore in the neighborhood, but if there’s one last thing you have to do – go out to the Roebuck Bay Lookout (map)! From here, you’ll have the best views over the bay and snap some very cool photos!
And if you do want to take some trips, I recommend driving out to Coconut Wells (map)! These stunning lagoon pools are just a 25-min drive North of Roebuck Bay, so you’ll need to rent a car and get some reef shoes because the terrain can be dangerous without the right footwear. But if you’re not planning a day trip, you can easily get around Roebuck Bay on foot!
Enjoy your stay in this upscale hotel, surrounded by tropical gardens and overlooking Roebuck Bay. You can spend your days swimming in one of the 2 outdoor pools, and at night, you can have a romantic dinner at one of the 2 on-site restaurants.
Other accommodation options in Roebuck Bay
