This hotel is almost fully booked months in advance, so consider yourself lucky if you find a slot! It’s also the most expensive hotel with private onsen around, but it’s so worth it!

Fuji Onsenji Yumedono – a luxury ryokan with a private feel
This top-rated 5-star ryokan has a private feel, Premier Suites with open-bath onsen, and the cutest traditional Japanese room décor with 3 futon beds. You also get traditional yukatas, (one-piece Japanese garments similar to kimono) to wear when visiting the onsen. So authentic!

I mean, most previous guests describe their experience here as “nothing short of magical” and “absolutely charming”, and I’m sure it’s for a good reason!
Fujikawaguchiko Onsen Konanso – full Japanese ryokan experience
Stay in this hotel if you want the ultimate traditional Japanese stay! The rooms are done in traditional Japanese style with wooden flooring (tatami), and there are indoor and outdoor private onsens, including in-room options.
This hotel also provides yukata robes and free green tea in your room. The staff is amazing, too, as they will assist you with anything you may need! They’ll pick you up from the station and serve you delicious traditional Japanese dinner in the guestroom or your own private dining room!

One of the most popular Mt Fuji hotels with private onsen awaits with multiple room setups, from Western-style rooms to Presidential Suites to Japanese-style accommodations. Even the smallest rooms here are spacious, and most of them have open-air private baths.
The hotel has a wine lounge that you can access for free when staying in more expensive rooms! Oh, and you’ll absolutely love the charming Japanese tea house, traditional garden, and stunning flower arrangements across the property! They also have Taiko drumming performances in the hotel! Talk about knowing how to entertain and care for guests!
Fuji Lake Hotel – a hotel with an old-time charm
Here’s one of the best hotels with Mt Fuji view money can buy! Fuji Lake Hotel has rooms with private onsens, a dedicated tatami area, and delicious breakfast and dinner (including drinks like sake, wine, and beer).
In the afternoon, they have refreshments in the lounge area with lovely views of the lake. There’s a shuttle that runs to the train station, so you can count on a ride whenever you need one. You can also get massages on-site for the ultimate relaxation!
Most guests had positive reviews, with the majority absolutely loving the size of the rooms and the hospitality of the staff.
Fugaku Gunjo – best hilltop hotel to stay with a car
How about enjoying Mt Fuji views directly from your private outdoor onsen? It’s doable in Fugaku Gunjol! Every room in this small hotel has a personal private onsen and view of the mountain.
They serve delicious breakfast and dinner, with the latter being a fusion between Western and Japanese cuisine well worthy of a Michelin star (again, not my words, it’s what previous guests say!)
Please note that this hotel is perched on a hill and is best reached by car. I don’t recommend staying here if you’re not driving. The closest train station is a 30-minute car ride away! The payoff is that you have surreal, postcard-worthy balcony views every day and night!
NOTE: This hotel is located in Izu, not in Fujikawaguchiko like most others on the list.
Oike Hotel – best mid-range family-friendly hotel
Oike Hotel is a family-friendly hotel offering traditional futon beds, indoor and outdoor public onsens, plus private ones available for rent. I like that they have a kids’ room where the little ones can play while you get a massage treatment!
The hotel is situated just a short walk from the lake and restaurants, offers free pickups from the Kawaguchiko Train Station and has yukata robes and green tea in rooms. You can even buy nice souvenirs in a cute shop they have on-site!
La Vista Fujikawaguchiko – best hotel for honeymooners
Here’s another one of the few hotels with a private onsen that actually overlooks Mt Fuji, right on the balcony of the rooms! The hotel is 5 km (3 miles) from Lake Kawaguchi and has private parking in case you’re driving. There’s also a free shuttle bus to get around.
They serve buffet breakfast and dinner on-site and have a sauna, hot tubs, and private onsen. Overall, this hotel seems to be more popular among couples, but they also have family rooms.
Multiple past guests say they stayed here for their honeymoon and loved it, so if you’re planning a special trip with your better half without breaking the bank, consider this option!
Maruei – a centrally-located ryokan
Stay in a central area around Lake Kawaguchiko just steps from museums and restaurants, all while enjoying stunning Mt Fuji views from your private onsen!
Breakfast and multi-course dinner are included in the price of this hotel, and so is free Wi-Fi and a shuttle bus to the nearest train station.
Considering the value for the money of their Japanese-style room (other rooms here are more expensive), this is one of the best hotels you’ll find! This hotel has a small gift shop at the property, but stores are also available just a short walk away.

Kasuitei Ooya – the most flexible private onsen offer
Located on the southeastern shore of Lake Kawaguchi, this 3-star hotel will blow you away! Select rooms here have private open-air onsens, while there’s also a hot tub, a karaoke room, and a massage room for ultimate relaxation!
Some rooms here have a shared bathroom and no view as opposed to select rooms with a lake view, a private bathroom, and a private open-air onsen. The difference between them is around US$100 per night, but the difference in comfort and amenities is enormous.
If you choose the more affordable room, you can still use their 2 public onsens or reserve a private onsen bath for 50 minutes for a fee.
Rakuyu – for unblocked lake views right from your bed
This hotel has rooms with absolutely stunning views of the lake with a really well-thought-out design. It has a traditional Ryokan-style décor mixed with a Western ambiance in the lobby. They pretty much offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner on-site, so you definitely won’t stay hungry here!
You can hire a bike with the hotel to explore the area, enjoy your own private onsen from the comfort of your room, or use the public one also available on-site.
Lakeland Hotel Mizunosato – the most affordable hotel with private onsen
Excellent location on the shores of Lake Kawaguchi, 40-minute private onsen sessions, indoor and outdoor baths, and a free shuttle service are only some of the perks of staying in this hotel!
Choose your own yukata robe to use for the onsen (many colors are available), enjoy traditional kaiseki dinners, and potentially add another $120 per night for a room with a private open-air bath! Do note that even if you don’t get a room with a private bath, you’ll still be able to use the public one privately by selecting a time slot only for you.
