Journey down into southern Russia and you have to make sure you visit the city of Rostov-on-Don. This large, modern city lies along the Don River and bears an interesting mix of regional influences from throughout the Northern Caucasus.
A nice place to start with Rostov-on-Don is Pushkin Street, a pedestrian-friendly promenade that’s lined with cafes and fountains. Both the riverfront along the Don and Gorky Park are also very pleasant for a stroll during the warmer months. As for attractions, the Nativity of the Virgin Cathedral is quite impressive.
