About this property

JJs Hāna Hale - Farm House

Aloha!
Welcome to Beautiful Hana! JJ’s Hana Hale is a 1 bedroom cottage, conveniently located near idyllic Hana town and it’s tiny Hana Airport in a historic district Hawaiian’s call: Ka’eleku on 6 verdant acres (turn left near the 31 mile marker on the legendary Hana Hwy). We live on the property, dedicating a large portion of it as a sanctuary for neglected animals. All are tame and very friendly. We encourage our guests to feel comfortable, enjoying their company…

Hospitable Hosts
The guesthouse situated in a portion of the property was quaint and well appointed. The unit was spacious and contained a full kitchen. We throughly enjoyed the fresh eggs left by the host. The linens were of great quality which really added to our comfort and made us feel at home. Observing and interacting with some of animals on the property was an amazing experience. We took morning and afternoon walks enjoying unique foliage and architectural style of the neighborhood. The hosts (Alan and Sharon) showed us lots of Aloha and really impressed upon us the spirit of community.

Great, spacious cottage in Hana.
Great location, cute, comfortable, spacious-feeling cottage with lots of windows & light that was perfect for my teenage son & I. We loved having the animals on the property around the cottage, and Sharon, the host was great.

Awesome farm and people!
Sharon and Alan were amazing hosts. They were very friendly and waited up for our late arrival, which we were not expecting. The animals are awesome and a fun thing to come home to after some long days exploring! The goats go on a walk with the hosts and it is fascinating to watch all the animals get in line to go. We are so glad we stayed here and if we come back, we will stay here again. Thanks again Sharon and Alan!!

About the host

Hosted by Mr. & Mrs. Alan & Sharon Jahns

Host profile image
Owners Alan & Sharon Jahns are lifelong Maui residents, who purchased this Hana property back in 2013. Living most of their lives in Kihei where they raised two sons -- they're now retired, empty nesters living full time on this small Hana farm, which has become a sanctuary for neglected animals. Both have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of Hana residents -- Sharon enjoys substitute teaching at Hana School, and Alan is on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity working to improve East Maui's acute housing problems.

Why they chose this property

Hana is a very special place... As lifelong Maui residents, we've always enjoyed visiting Hana -- dreaming that someday we'd be fortunate enough to buy a place and call Hana our home. We began seriously looking at different Hana properties for almost a year, but once we found 215 Maia Road, we knew this was it! In the native Hawaiian culture, the sacred term mana is known as spiritual energy of power and strength -- this property has a very strong "mana"....

What makes this property unique

Sharon has always had a very strong love for animals... Once we moved to this beautiful 6 acre property, we turned it into a sanctuary for neglected animals.. Word travels fast in Hana ("the coconut wireless"), and before long we became a loving home for horses, cattle, goats, pigs, ducks, chickens, dogs and a cat (the exact numbers vary from month to month). All are tame and very friendly. We encourage our guests to feel comfortable, enjoying their company…We offer a "full farm experience" for fellow animal lovers, or just a quiet retreat for those looking to escape the crowded resorts.
