Hill City is perfect for couples or families wanting to visit the Black Hills area of South Dakota. It had great restaurants very near our hotel, like the Chute Rooster. There was a winery and a brewery nearby. The town was walkable and had great shopping. It was very close to Mt. Rushmore and Crazy horse monument area. Also Custer National Park and Windcave National Park. It had a lot going on but didn't seem too busy. We will definitely come back and stay here if we come to this area again.

We've been to Hill City many times over the years.

We've been to Hill City many times over the years. History, the train, nearness to Mount Rushmore, and surrounding scenery are the biggest draws of Hill City. Quality of food was lacking. Steak was questionable as to what it really was at the Alpine Inn and the Pizza at the big restaurant on the corner was horrible. Other than that, Hill City is a neat old historical town, but it ain't like it was just a few years ago.

We stayed on the second floor and there is no elevator but that was not an issue for us. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast and quality coffee :) It was very close to Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer Park (which has a great wildlife loop - don't miss it!) Being so close allowed us to visit the places more than once in a day which is a nice option. The entry fees to these places all allowed you to come and go for a couple days. All in all this was a very convenient place to stay at a very reasonable price.

The hotel was fine, the front staff was professional and housekeeping was great! Parking is tight with large full size truck. We had to park away from our room due to tight parking. The entrance was a bit unusual to access.

Hill city had a lot of interesting stores and restaurants plus needed facilities such as a post office. It was easy to drive and park there and close to many sites one would want to visit. It is quaint and pictoresque.

These are very well build and designed cabins in the woods just outside of Hill City. Very peaceful place to stay that feels rustic and in nature in the middle of very busy and tourist Black Hills. We really love the Black Hills area and this helps us enjoy being there. Is relatively close to Rushmore, Jewel Cave, Deadwood, Custer State Park, Sylvan Lake, ATV rentals, 1880 Train, riding some of the fantastic gravel Michelson bike trail, etc, which we did all of and more. A very good value if you have six or so people with you.

This location was easy to access off the main street in Hill City, close to the attractions we were in town to enjoy. The room was very clean and comfortable. The kids loved the pool, and I was grateful that there were plenty of pool towels to use. I was also happy to have access to guest laundry, as we needed to take care of a load of dirty clothes. Another plus for us was the breakfast offerings, this location had nearly the whole normal spread available - eggs, potatoes, ham, cereal, yogurt, juice, coffee, and more!

This place was great. Dan and Angela greeted us as we pulled into the parking lot and informed us that the lot would be full for a few hours due to a Porsche club using it. However, Dan valet parked out car for us at the back of the inn and then brought it back when the club was finished with their meeting. The room was very comfortable and right in downtown Hill City. Everything was within walking distance. We highly recommend that if you are staying in Hill City to book a room with them.

This is a lodge situated in a huge summer camp and RV park situated right between Hill City & Keystone. We don't have kids but the place looked like an amazing place to bring them in the summer with a tremendous amount of facilities and activities. We liked it because we were able to eat in Keystone Hill City, Custer, and Rapid City. The rooms themselves were fine with a lovely view of the hill, we were very happy there.

Excellent location for exploring the Black Hills and Custer State Park. Room was large, clean and comfortable, with fridge and microwave which was very handy. Grocery store next door. Short walk into Hill City for restaurants/bars. Plenty of parking. Breakfast selection good with hot buffet. Outdoor pool available (although we didn't get time to use ourselves).

The location is the "top positive" for Trails End. Hill City is a very active tourist town. However, at these cabins a person has the quiet of being away from the bustle and close to a lot of sites.
