Saumur is an incredibly charming town on the banks of the Loire, with a beautiful historic castle set above the town. It's large enough that there are excellent services and plentiful restauants, but retains a small town feel. It's also within range of many great wineries and the great castles of the Loire, and it also has some interesting museums of its own.
We recommend Le Boeuf Noisette, Keating Steak, and L'cancuna for excellent meals.

Hotel is in a central location with free parking on on many nearby streets. There is chargeable parking at the hotel if you prefer. Although the hotel is right on the road and most rooms face onto the street it’s not too busy with traffic and windows are double glazed. Breakfast is really good value. The town has grand buildings and a lovely Chateau, all very picturesque. Plenty of restaurants.

A town that made tourists very welcome, and was very well set up for tourists. Easy to get to all the main attractions and eating areas. There was plenty of free parking opposite our hotel. The main restaurant area is in the square infront of the church , and both restaurants we ate in there were good.

Beautiful and interesting city.
Beautiful and interesting city. Wide range of shops and restaurants to suit every taste. Situated in lovely countyside and it's a mecca for wine lovers.
For briliant food, recommend Le Boeuf Noisette. For wines, visit Maison des Vins d'Anjou et de Saumur.
A drive around the local villages is also recommended.

Saumur is lovely, so many things to see and do.
Saumur is lovely, so many things to see and do.
However a car is mandatory and at least in the winter months everything is closed on Sunday.
We had a lot of ambitions to see stuff but only Saturday to do so. Which was an unwelcome surprise. Especially in a time when travel is so hard.
We came specifically for the tank museum (Musee des Blindes) which is unique for its collection.
The Chateau is magnificent.
Our other desires were thwarted by inability to move around combined with the Sunday closures.

Nice town with old center and very nice castle.
Nice town with old center and very nice castle. Rather exceptional tank museum is a must-see for everyone interested in similar topics. Good place for short trip, with more interesting places in surrounding area.
The position of hotel made Saumur very accessible for walking as well dinner, sight seeing and parking. The bonus came from our wonderful meal of the first night (plat du jour) at E22.50 great value but importantly made with great love. They also gave us a complementary starter. Breakfast was very good. The chef was very professional and friendly. A treat. The room was small as expected but very clean and serviced well. Parking was very easy, just outside, and if during the week you had unlimited parking under the roadway some 2mins opposite.
The hotel and staff are the absolute best. Friendly, knowledgeable, always doing extra to help. Laura found us the most amazing vineyard to visit - a place we could walk among the vines and an excellent wine tasting in the original chateau. The hotel garden and restaurant are wonderful too. The whole vibe is simply amazing - and for anyone, like us, who chooses to travel by train, it's an enjoyable walk on the flat from the train across the Loire river. I'm already looking forward to returning to this gorgeous hotel.
We had the most wonderful stay Aux Marquises. An extremely beautiful, comfortable, elegantly decorated home, with a lot of space for guests! The owners gave our family the warmest welcome, including the most delicious breakfasts we had in all of our visit to France, and wonderful recommendations of things to do and places to eat around Saumur. A real jewel, very warmly recommended -- thank-you so much! I hope we get to go back one day!
A stunning apartment in Saumur which we used as a base to explore the Loire Valley. The host Stephanie was incredibly accommodating, I was in need of a seamstress to alter a dress for me and Stephanie found someone to come to my apartment on their day off to pin the dress and return it again two days later. Nothing is too much trouble, very friendly staff who had great recommendations of where to eat and visit.
The hotel has been beautifully renovated and our apartment was delightful: clean, comfortable and well appointed. The breakfast at the hotel was excellent, and we loved the city of Saumur. We found a local restaurant with an excellent menu within easy walking distance of the hotel. Check in and parking were easy, and our hosts were helpful and present at all times.
Our room was small but very clean, and had nice large windows that opened fully. It was quiet despite being right across from the train station. Staff on-site only speaks French so it's good to have a few phrases memorized if you aren't fluent. We were driving on this trip and free parking on the street in front of the hotel was easy to find.
Nothing was too much trouble - requests were dealt with immediately. Everything was top quality.
The interior was stunning - all original features have been maintained. More like staying in a private house than a hotel.
The grounds were lovely and very well maintained. Parking was easy. Staff were super helpful.
Great location - just a short walk across the bridge to the main area of restaurants and bars.
Room very clean and staff very accommodating.
Secure onset parking really important for me - as travelling on a motorbike.
I have stayed in Saumur on a few occasions and would happily recommend this hotel.
A 3 nights stay in a hotel placed very central for Saumur city, and it is possible to park your car for free in the neighborhood.
We had a quiet room to the backyard.
The BF was ok, but we missed the cheese every morning.
Many good restaurants with excellent food and excellent local wine
The location was fantastic ... right next to a central square with many restaurants and shops. The staff was very friendly. We found Saumur to be a good place to visit Loire Valley from. We enjoyed the caves and several Chateau's before continuing on to Lyon.
Amazing view across the Loire to the Chāteau de Saumur and city centre. Pay the extra for a river view room. Very quiet location with easy hotel parking.
BTW the noise you can hear from the riverbank is... frogs (kept us puzzled for a couple of days).
Great location for a stopover stay. located close to both the ring road and the motorway network and also 5 minute drive to the middle of Saumur Town . nice comfy rooms - very clean and everything works! . Plenty of parking right outside your door.
It was old fashioned but nicely refurbished. Lovely setting between the river and the castle right in the centre of Saumur. I thought it was exceptional value. The air conditioning was a lifesaver. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.
A charming apartment close to everything in downtown Saumur. Inside was tranquil and stately, carefully appointed with everything you would need for a wonderful stay. Excellent communication with the host -we would most definitely recommend!
Great location, easy to walk to all the wonderful things Saumur has to offer, castles, food and more. Awesome stop for cyclists as they have a wonderful locked storage area in the secure parking garage.
Extremely welcoming hotel in a perfect location for both Saumur and the Loire generally. Very comfortable room, great breakfast and good on site parking
