San Jose, the unofficial “capital” of Silicon Valley, is a quiet, charming and organized city.

Many of the major tech companies, such as Dell, Yahoo, Google and Apple, can be found here. There is a great convention center, and many exhibitions take place almost every day throughout the year. No wonder the city attracts so many business travelers!

But other than business visits, I can recommend stopping by San Jose on your way to, for instance, San Francisco. There are plenty of restaurants, a big amusement park called Paramount Great America, and other activities. Any traveler, whether they’re in town for business or leisure, will find not get bored in San Jose.

If you are heading here any time soon, let me recommend some great boutique hotels based on the neighborhood you’re staying in.

Downtown San Jose

Downtown San Jose is, no doubt, the liveliest area in the city. That is where concerts and theatre plays are held. The San Jose McEnery Convention Center, Broadway San Jose, and Children’s Discovery Museum can all be found in downtown San Jose.

My first recommendation for this area would be the Hyatt Place San Jose/Downtown — it offers great value for your money and offers outstanding service. This three-star hotel has modern and spacious rooms where you will feel at home and relaxed. As a nice extra, all rooms provide complimentary KenetMD skin and hair care products.

Another good option for the downtown area would be to stay around Market Street. Like in the majority of U.S. cities, Market Street in San Jose is the main street in the city. `

The Westin San Jose is a four-star hotel built in 1920. It boasts elegant furnishings and a chic atmosphere. Its upscale restaurant, Il Fornaio, serves mouth-watering Italian cuisine dishes. Don’t miss your chance to try it while there!

San Jose Airport Area

If you need to spend a couple of nights near the San Jose International airport area, there are plenty of great boutique hotels nearby.

The San Jose Airport Garden Hotel has a seasonal outdoor pool, and the warm Californian sun will allow you to take advantage of it! As a simple but hospitable hotel, it offers very affordable rates. The hotel is quite basic, but if you are searching for a cheap room around the airport, it is a great choice. If you are looking for something to do around the hotel during the day, I recommend visiting the San Jose flea market for unusual finds.

On the Way to Silicon Valley

If you are planning to visit some of the headquarters of the technology giants, the best location for your hotel can be on the main highways’ intersections (major highways are 880, 280, and 101).

Greeting you with a fireplace where you can enjoy reading complimentary newspapers, The Row Hotel would be your best bet.

In case you are traveling with the family, The Row Hotel has separate sleeping and dining areas as well as a fridge and a microwave, so that you could easily eat your own meal. The breakfast is included.

Fancy some relaxation after a business meeting? There is the charming San Jose Municipal Rose Garden just a 10 minute walk away.

I hope you enjoyed my little introduction to the city of San Jose. Use my hotel recommendations to prepare you for your upcoming visit!
